By appending an additional field in the TCPs header for detailed feedback about segment reception, SACKs allow the receiver to inform the sender about successful and missing data segments. The diagram below shows how packets can be dropped when sending from one device to another in a network. When data is sent from a source device to a destination device in a None-SACKÂ network, it can get lost without the destination device being notified.
In a None-SACK network, information can be lost at the destination, and there can also be duplicate data on the receiver, as shown below.
