Add Some Angelic Style to Your Décor with Wings from Hobby Lobby

Post date |

As an avid crafter and décor enthusiast, I’m always on the lookout for fun new projects to liven up my home Recently, I came across a brilliant idea on TikTok for making angel wing decorations using supplies from Hobby Lobby. Keep reading as I walk through this simple DIY and explain exactly how you can use products from Hobby Lobby to add some heavenly style to your space with gorgeous, glittering angel wings

Gather Your Materials from Hobby Lobby

To make these angel wing decorations, you’ll need just a few supplies that can all be found at your local Hobby Lobby craft store:

  • Glass ornament balls
  • Fairy wings from the Christmas decoration section
  • E6000 adhesive
  • Hot glue gun
  • Scissors

The glass ornament balls and the fairy wings are the most important parts. Hobby Lobby has a lot of great glass ball ornaments all year long, not just in the Christmas and holiday sections. I chose clear glass balls, but you could use colored ones instead if you’d like.

The fairy wings are sold in the Christmas décor area and may only be available seasonally, so stock up on a few packs if you see them! The wings in the TikTok video appeared to be from the “Brilliant Wings” collection.

E6000 adhesive and a hot glue gun will be vital for attaching the wings securely to the ornaments. And of course, you’ll need scissors for trimming the wings to size.

Carefully Cut the Wings to Fit the Ornaments

Once you have everything you need, it’s time to put the angel wings together. First, use scissors to carefully cut the wings off of the fairy decoration. Cut close to the base of the wing to keep as much of its shape as possible.

Hold up one wing at a time to get a feel for where you need to cut the glass item. Get rid of any extra so the wings can lie flat on the ball`s surface. Cut slowly and in small pieces until the wings are the right size.

Affix the Wings Using Hot Glue and E6000

Putting on the wings is the next fun part. It takes some time, but the end result is so worth it!

Start by putting down a layer of hot glue on the glass ball where you want one wing to attach. Quickly press the wing into the hot glue to adhere it. The hot glue will form ainitial bond fast.

Once the wing is positioned, use E6000 adhesive to thoroughly glue the wing in place, covering all edges. This strong adhesive will ensure a durable, long-lasting hold.

Repeat gluing down the second wing on the opposite side so the wings are symmetrical. Use plenty of E6000 to fully secure the wings. Once finished gluing, set the angel wings aside and allow several hours for the E6000 to cure before handling.

Embellish with Glitter for an Angelic Finish

To really bring the angel theme together, you can add some sparkling embellishments. For a celestial look, brush on glitter glue onto the tips of the wings and in other small accents. You can find glitter glue and glitter paint pens at Hobby Lobby near the regular glue selections.

Let the glitter cure fully before moving or hanging your angel wings. The glitter glue and paint will dry hardened so the shimmer stays put. Add glitter embellishments to as many wings and glass balls as you like to create a matching set.

Display Your Angel Wings in Creative Ways

Now for the fun part – finding ways to display your handmade angel wings! Here are some ideas:

  • Hang them using clear thread or fishing line so they appear to float on the wall or in a doorway or archway.

  • Cluster 3-5 of them together on a bookshelf, side table, or mantel for an eye-catching grouping.

  • Nestle them in a bowl filler or plants for a bit of sparkle.

  • String them along a garland on a railing or bannister.

  • Place one flat on a table as part of a seasonal centerpiece.

  • Hang one on the top of your Christmas tree as a tree topper angel.

  • Suspend singles or groups from the ceiling to catch the light.

Let your imagination run wild with ways to show off your angel wings. They make lovely year-round decor and are especially fitting for the winter holidays.

Helpful Tips for Success

To recap this project, here are some helpful pointers:

  • Take your time trimming the wings evenly to fit the ornaments.

  • Be patient during the gluing steps to ensure proper adhesion.

  • Let the E6000 fully cure before moving or embellishing. This prevents the wings from detaching.

  • Glitter glue may take 12-24 hours to completely dry and harden before handling.

  • For hanging, use strong, clear thread or fishing line so the wings appear suspended.

  • Display singles or groups in places where the light catches them to maximize shimmer.

DIY Angel Wings Flower Swag

In this video, we’re decorating metal angel wings with a flower swag. I left the angel wings black but these could easily be painted the color of your choice. You could paint them Krylon spray paint for metal if you want to. Wouldn’t they look nice white or with a metallic silver or gold finish? Here’s how to make it:

Supplies

  • Angel wings (Hobby Lobby)
  • Ribbon (Carolina Pottery)
  • Different flowers
  • Zip ties
  • Floral wire
  • Hot glue gun
  • Rustic wire

How to Make a DIY Angel Wings Flower Swag:

  • Paint your angel wings first, then let them dry.
  • Next, create a bow with your ribbon. There should be enough ribbon for a tail that goes down the length of one wing. For detailed bow making instructions, click here. It’s not often that I do 12-inch loops, but I thought that would be too big for these wings. I adjusted and made the loops 10 inches instead.
  • When your bow is done, put it on the angel wings to see where it should go. Do not attach it yet.
  • Get ideas for what you want to use by pulling flowers. For one side of the wings, make a small bundle. Once you’re happy with how the flowers and plants look, zip tie the bundle together. Then do the same thing with the flowers on the other side. Note: Don’t make the wings look so different that you can’t tell what they are. As you try on different looks, it can help to step back and see it from a different point of view.
  • Set the flowers out on top of the wings, one bundle to the left and one to the right. Figure out how much space you need for the bow between the flowers. You might need to cut back any flowers or stems that are too low and could fall under the bow.
  • Use wire to connect your bow to the middle of the flower bundles.
  • I forgot to say in the video that you can cut your stems shorter at this point.
  • The bow and flower bundles can now be wired to the top of the wings. Remember that you can make the arrangement look better by hotgluing leaves or ribbon to the stems and then zip-tying them to the wings. This will be seen from the back.
  • You can slightly bend the flowers up toward the bow to make your bundles more separate.
  • The next step is to hot glue flowers and/or greenery inside the bow loops to finish it off.
  • Last, make a hanger by putting a piece of rustic wire on the back of each wing.
