Exploring Bug Buster 2 in Resident Evil 4’s Separate Ways DLC

Resident Evil 4’s Separate Ways DLC adds hours of additional gameplay by letting players experience the events of the main campaign from the perspective of secret agent Ada Wong. Along with new cutscenes and areas to explore, Separate Ways also features exclusive side missions called Merchant Requests that task Ada with hunting down hidden items or enemies in exchange for useful rewards.

Overview of Bug Buster 2

Bug Buster 2 becomes available near the start of Separate Ways’ Chapter 6 after Ada rides a tram car into the fortified Defensive Line location. After speaking with the Merchant, a note can be found near his shop that kicks off the Bug Buster 2 side mission.

This Merchant Request tasks Ada with hunting down and eliminating three Novistador enemies – dangerous chameleon-like insects that can blend into their surroundings. Taking down all three hidden Novistadors will reward Ada with 9 pieces of Spinel that can be traded to the Merchant for supplies.

But it can be hard to find these well-hidden bugs in the heavily guarded Defensive Line area. Ada will have to be sneaky as she uses her Biosensor Scope to find the Novistadors she needs to kill by their heat signatures.

Novistador #1 Location

The first Novistador can be found soon after entering the Defensive Line area. This bug is located on the northeast cliff near where Ada drops into this region.

When going into the Defensive Line, it’s best to stay behind cover to avoid getting hit by the deadly auto-turrets in the area. Ada can either snipe the Novistador from afar or sneak up on it from behind the turrets before getting close to where it’s hiding on the cliff wall. To see the bug’s heat signature against the rocky background, you need to use the Biosensor often.

Novistador #2 Location

Finding the second Novistador requires pressing deeper into the Defensive Line. After dealing with the initial turrets, Ada should head north past a laser tripwire trap and engage the enemies guarding the northern watchtower.

As soon as the area is safe, she can run across the bridge past the camp to get to safety. After that, the second bug can be seen stuck to the northern watchtower, which is just across the bridge. It’s best to attack from far away because Ada will be open to attack while crossing the bridge.

Novistador #3 Location

Locating the third well-hidden Novistador is the most challenging step in this Merchant Request. Ada will need to make her way across a second bridge guarded by turrets to reach the southwestern side of the Defensive Line.

She should use her grapple gun to get across the chasm and then climb the nearby ladder to get to a higher spot. Ada’s Biosensor Scope can finally find the third bug that is hiding because it is facing the western wall from this angle.

A sniper rifle or magnum works nicely for a clean long range shot. With the destruction of the third Novistador, the Bug Buster 2 side mission is complete.

Tips for Completing Bug Buster 2

• Equip the Biosensor Scope before dropping into the Defensive Line to easily see the heat signatures of the hidden Novistadors.

• Stay behind cover when entering new areas to avoid taking fire from the Defensive Line’s many turrets.

• Clear out enemies guarding the bridges before attempting to cross them. The open bridges leave Ada very exposed.

• Saving rocket launcher ammo to quickly destroy the turrets guarding the bridges can make crossing much safer.

• Snipe the Novistadors from a distance when possible. Getting close allows them to ambush Ada with their claw attacks.

• Don’t worry about finding the initial Merchant Request note. The Bug Buster 2 mission will activate so long as Ada talks to the Merchant.

Bug Buster 2 is one of the tougher Merchant Requests that Ada Wong will take on during her Separate Ways campaign. The Novistador bugs she must hunt down are easy to miss without proper use of her Biosensor Scope gadget. Players must also proceed carefully when navigating the Defensive Line’s many hazards.

However, mastering this side mission’s objectives provides excellent rewards. The Spinel earned from completing Bug Buster 2 can be used to purchase new weapons, healing items, or upgrades to help Ada tackle Separate Ways’ later challenges. With smart preparation and observation, even this difficult hunt through a heavily fortified location can be completed smoothly.
